The end of the war in Europe was announced on 8th May 1945 to much celebration, including parities, parades and thanksgiving services. There was great joy after many years of hardship but also sadness for the hundreds of thousands of people that sadly lost their lives.
To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, each class undertook a range of activities and prayer services to remind us of the years of sacrifice made by many people at home and overseas. We also prayed for those who are still facing conflict and war and discussed how understanding history can help us to be peacemakers of the future. After an outdoor picnic in the sun, we enjoyed a visit from the ice-cream van.
“Together, let us build a more fraternal, just world, educating young people to have hearts open to all, in the spirit of fraternity, forgiveness, and peace.” – Pope Francis
